Enchant Glitter Shrug

This delicate little shrug is actually a clever hack to the popular free crochet pattern Eva's Shawl by Milobo. If you pay attention to how simple this is constructed you could easily make this type of shrug out of any shawl in any size.

Glitter Shrug Front

Janette Wise explains how this a shawl she started crocheting for herself ended up being made into a smart little shrug for her daughter on her blog The Green Dragonfly. Basically by stopping short and tacking the sides together to make arm holes she was able to fashion this would-be shawl into a classy shrug.

This pattern in both the shawl and shrug form called for a lace weight yarn. Trying something new I ordered some Enchant yarn by Premier, a lace weight yarn with tiny sequins woven into the thread. A very fine yarn that was a little hard to manage at first, It was very much as I would imagine it would be to crochet with dental floss.

Glitter Shrug @ 5 Rows

here is my progress after 5 rows!!

Glitter Shrug @ 15 Rows

and here again after 15 rows.

In the original modification of this shawl she stopped at 15 rows but for this one I went on to a total of 21 rows. You can now start to see that there are 4 "panels" created by the rows of v-stitches (marked here in the red). To make this in any size you basically make it until the outside panels( indicated with the blue) are big enough to fit around the top of the arm. at that point you will tack the 2 edges of the panel (shown with yellow dots) together to form the arm hole.

Glitter Shrug Flat!!

Here is the finished product.

I was surprised with the stretch and strength of this thread. It seemed really fragile and dainty in the beginning but once I started pulling it out to shape up the shrug it opened up nicely and you could really see the fine stitch work of the shrug.

Glitter Shrug Back

I really enjoyed crocheting this lovely shrug. I got many compliments on it before I handed over to the young lady it was made for and I am told she was the belle of the ball that night.

This is my first adventure with this kind of specialty yarn, I am already getting request for other items made with this super cool yarn. As they come to be I will be sharing them here.
